Warning!!! Below is a
really long and boring description of my life, but
if you're a internship recruiter, or just want to know my credentials, then
download my résumé
or go to my Academics page.
Hello my name is Pei
Zhang and I am from Beijing, China :D
为中华之崛起
I was born one night
in 1979, in Beijing China, lived with my grandparents, went to
kindergarten in Beijing, elementary school. I don't remember much and it
seem like such a long time ago. I was never a "three good" student, always
late to class and stuff and getting into a lot of fights and got into
trouble a lot. I was the 2nd group to be able to join the young pioneers,
the good students were the first. however my friends nominated and I become
a "small leader" second grade. I did a really bad job so Wasn't
re-selected... But after that, I enjoyed the responsibility less, care free
life. All went well until I turned 10 years old.
Came to the US to live
with my parents when I was 10. went to elementary school and didn't speak
English for 2 years, I was taught that the American is a evil capitalist
society and didn't want to speak "their" language. Until junior high came
and, of course, my grandmother was able to convince me that I should learn
the language and gain knowledge since I was going to be there for a while, I
guess she was right. I shouldn't be too idealistic. With a solid basic
education in China, my GPA soon rose above 2.0 :p although I still get Cs
every now and then... :p
Junior high came and
went and high school came. meet a lot more smarter people and got some
inspiration to be a better student. Of course, that idea soon went away and
I stop caring about grades very soon... Junior year I decided to fool my way
in to a decent college so joined a whole lot of clubs, competitions and even
went to some colleges to take classes. Apparently my ability to sell my self
wasn't too bad, Caltech actually
accepted me, it baffles me too...
Life at Caltech was
very much fun. Living near friends produced a lot more chance for fun and
friction. So many more different people here than in my High school. Went to
many places and had lots of fun. I guess you guys can see in my photo album.
Now I've graduated
with Honors from Tech!!! ... So decided to come to Princeton to avoid
entering the "real world".
I am currently working
on the ZebraNet project under Professor Martonosi at Princeton University.
ZebraNet is a mobile sensor network aimed at wildlife tracking for biology
research studies. Since January, 2003, I have been responsible for ZebraNet
hardware design of ZebraNet which include a long
range radio, a GPS and a microcontroller to allow for long range ad-hoc
networking. Got to go to Africa Jan 2004 to test the newest version of the
device. Currently we deployed it as part of tracking collars on seven zebras
in the vicinity of Princeton's Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. Now I'm
working on my research seminar.
For the future, so far I want to be a professor or something, avoid the real
world at all cost... But who knows, I wanted to be a Physicist, then a
chemist, then became a EE major. So...
